Man arrested in fatal Semmes crash trying to leave country: court documents

SEMMES, Ala. (WKRG) – The man arrested in connection with a crash in Semmes that killed a 19-year-old attempted to leave the country before he was arrested, according to court documents.

Antonio Antonio Rodas, 29, was arrested on May 8 on murder charges stemming from an April 28 accident. 19-year-old Adam Luker was taken to hospital after the accident and died on May 6th.

According to the documents, Rodas was deemed an “extreme flight risk” after purchasing a plane ticket to South America. He was arrested after leaving the airport.

Court documents also said Rodas was driving 88 miles per hour at the time of the accident. A blood alcohol test showed Rodas’ alcohol level was three times over the legal limit.

In 2021, Rodas was charged with drunken driving after an accident, according to documents.

Due to Aniah’s Law, Rodas was not granted bond.

“Given the nature of the incident, his criminal history, and the fact that Mr. Rodas is in this country illegally, we strongly believe that seeking Aniah’s Law is the appropriate course of action,” the Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood said.
