A Tortosa father said he saw his teenage daughter and her friend being attacked and beaten outside the UltraStar Cinemas movie theater on Maricopa Road.

Two other teenagers attacked his daughter and her friend in front of the theater’s main entrance on Saturday, said father Ron Tankamnerd, who had to take the girls to the hospital to treat their injuries.

“As opposed to a mere fight, this was a physical attack,” Tankamnerd said. “My daughter and her friend were chased by the attackers, who were accompanied by a group of boys who filmed the incident.”

Maricopa Police Department spokeswoman Monica Williams referred reporters to Ak-Chin police. Ak-Chin Police Chief Manuel Garcia said he could not comment on the incident and referred InMaricopa to the Ak-Chin administrative offices, which did not answer the call.

It is not known whether any arrests were made, but the father said he believed the attackers were detained.

Tankamnerd said he wanted to warn other parents about the danger to teenagers that has been present at this theater for months.

“Unfortunately, this is not the first time that incidents like this have occurred among youth at this location,” Tankamnerd said. “It is important that Maricopa residents are made aware of these safety concerns.”

Tankamnerd was referring to a fight that broke out at the cinema on May 10th.

After the violent brawl during a screening of planet of monkeysThe Ak-Chin Circle Entertainment Center has tightened its visitor policies and now requires that young people under the age of 18 be accompanied by their parents.

“For the safety and well-being of our young visitors, all persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian after 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays,” the entertainment center said in a statement at the time.

The disclaimer states that it is the responsibility of parents or guardians to “supervise minors at all times during their visit to the center.”

The fight in the cinema involved several young people who left their shoes, spilled popcorn and garbage scattered in the aisle.

Pinal County Sheriff’s Office officials led some of the teens away in handcuffs, a source at the theater said.
