Featuring music from Styx, Journey, Foreigner, Aerosmith, The Who, Led Zeppelin, REO Speedwagon, The Doobie Brothers and many more, Legends of Rock is the ultimate tribute show to the best of rock ‘n’ roll from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. The band is comprised of five guys who love rock and do it well – they’re all professional musicians with decades of recording and touring experience.

Conductor and keyboardist John Houston has performed in Gladys Knight’s Saints Unified Voices choir and is currently in seven groups, four of which tour the United States and Canada. He is also the music director of the Hale Center Theatre in Gilbert, Arizona, and owns and operates a recording studio as his “day job.”

A former voice student at Southern Utah University, Houston is a renowned studio engineer, studio keyboardist, touring keyboardist and bassist. He is also the inventor of the “Houston Rocket,” a pluckable electric clavichord that produces a unique and memorable sound.

Between studio work and live performances, he stays busy year-round and has made a living as a freelance musician since 2004. Houston has been recorded on over 1,000 songs and can also be heard on radio commercials throughout southern Utah on a daily basis.

Leading the way on vocals and guitar is Luke Randall of “American Idol” fame, who played hundreds of shows as the resident guitarist for “Piano Man: A Tribute To Elton John and Billy Joel” at Mosaic on the Strip in Las Vegas. Randall is a talented guitarist, pianist and singer with several albums of his own to his credit, not to mention an exciting showman.

Rick Houston, lead guitarist and vocalist, has been performing at private and corporate events for decades, playing guitar and singing in several rock and country bands in Utah, Nevada and California. His extensive musical background dates back to his childhood, when he learned to sing harmony at age 6.

Trained in classical guitar, bassist Joe Costello holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Arizona State University and has been teaching music to students of all ages for over 30 years. In addition to playing in various bands, he shares his love of music as a studio teacher and musician at Costello Family Music in Sahuarita, Arizona.

Dutch Workman, an exceptional studio drummer with a traditional jazz background, completes the band. He has played live in front of thousands of screaming fans with artists such as Eric Dodge and Tom Matz and has lent his talents to hundreds of recordings.

“I think this show will be a sellout,” Smith said. “If there’s one show we’ve done this year, this is the one to see.”

Heading to Springdale for the weekend? Tom Bennett will also be playing at the Bumbleberry Theater on Friday, July 26.

Bennett has become a favorite among southern Utah fans with his entertaining blend of country and blues. Essentially a one-man band, he tours nationally and also co-founded the Colorado City Music Festival. The show begins at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
