Furthermore, he explained that the aim of the project is to make airline performance data transparent and publicly available by giving travelers the opportunity to file complaints, monitor airline punctuality and receive self-reported case management information.

He said,

“Our consumer protection portal is ready for use. We are currently training our staff. It will go online in August,” said Achimugu.

“The portal enables the timely collection of flight operations data in real time as well as the submission and resolution of complaints.

“The public can obtain information at any time and in real time about the performance of each airline in terms of flight operations (punctuality) and complaint handling and resolution (customer experience).”

Need for transparency

Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Space, announced in January that the government would begin publishing information on delayed or cancelled flights by domestic airlines.

According to the minister, airlines should not be punished by ceasing operations.

Achimugu clarified the minister’s promise by saying that the consumer portal will promote airline accountability and transparency.

“When it comes to public shaming, it has always been better to have a transparent and unassailable system where customer experience and real-time data serve as the reporting system,” he said.

“Our consumer protection portal ensures that the performance of every airline is subject to such an examination.”

In addition, Achimugu promised impartiality in assessing customer complaints.
