Death investigation in Cushing, Maine leads to charges

CUSHING, Maine – A Cushing man faces multiple charges after a person was found dead in the Knox County town over the weekend.

Mark Gagne, 41, was arrested Friday and charged with hindering apprehension and desecration of a corpse, Maine Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss said in a news release Monday.

Maine State Police detectives and evidence technicians went to a residence on River Road on Friday and Saturday to conduct interviews and search the crime scene, which led to Gagne’s arrest, the press release said.

The identity of the deceased person has not been released by authorities. The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be performed.

Gagne is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit in the investigation.

Moss said more information would be released if needed.
