From Benedictine to the Braves! Benedictine Military School alumnus Carter Holton has been selected by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Holton, a left-handed pitcher from Vanderbilt, was the 62nd overall pick Sunday night. Holton started 41 career games with a 4.10 ERA while at Vanderbilt. He was a Freshman All-American in 2022 when he posted a 3.14 ERA in 15 starts and became the first freshman in program history to start a regional opener. As a junior, Holton was fourth among SEC qualified pitchers with 12.7 strikeouts per nine innings and made five quality starts, but he also allowed five or more runs in five of his 15 outings. Holton was previously selected in the 18th round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. Carter Holton was one of the most dominant prep players to ever step foot on the high school field in southeast Georgia. At Benedictine, he went 31-4 and struck out 463 batters during his high school career. Holton also set a state record with his career ERA of 0.59. Holton was named Georgia Player of the Year by Prep Baseball Report. He was also named Baseball Player of the Year by the Savannah Morning News three times.
