Woman in Alabama killed by dog; family member’s pet euthanized

An Alabama woman was killed when her dog attacked her in a kennel.

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s officials were called to the dog attack just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The incident occurred near the community of Berry in the north of the county, said Marty Sellers, captain of the Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit.

When officers arrived, they found the 62-year-old woman dead in the dog kennel. Her identity is not being released.

Sellers said the victim’s husband tried to call her but was unable to reach her. He asked another family member to check on her and that’s when the victim was discovered.

When the unknown family entered the kennel, he too was attacked by the dog.

“He was forced to put the dog down,” Sellers said.

According to the authorities, it was a large breed of dog, but they did not know the exact breed.

“The family has never had problems with it before,” Sellers said.

For privacy reasons, no further information would be released, he said.
