Maine State Police Investigate Child’s Death – NECN

According to state police, the death of a child is being investigated in the state of Maine.

Boston affiliate NBC10 News Center Maine reports that authorities were called to a home in Vinalhaven shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday after the child’s parents called 911 to report that their son was unresponsive.

Life-saving measures were taken and the child was taken to Islands Community Medical Services, but he died a short time later, said Shannon Moss, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Division headquarters has been notified, News Center Maine reports.

An autopsy was performed Thursday, but more tests are needed before the cause and manner of death can be determined, Moss said, according to News Center Maine. The boy’s parents are cooperating with the investigation, officials added.

Vinalhaven is an island in the middle of Penobscot Bay with just over 1,100 residents living there year-round, reports News Center Maine.
