Another hit-and-run incident in Maharashtra: Woman from Nashik dies after collision with car; incident captured on CCTV

In another hit-and-run case in Maharashtra, a woman died on Tuesday after she was run over by a speeding car in Nashik. The woman, identified as Archana Kishore Shinde, was thrown through the air and thrown about 15-20 metres after the white compact car hit her from behind, according to harrowing video footage of the incident that surfaced online.

The incident occurred around 6 pm in the Gangapur area.

Archana Kishore Shinde, 36, was admitted to hospital following the incident, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The 51-year-old driver, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and fled the scene, was later arrested, police said.

The accused was identified as Devchand Rambhau Tidme, a resident of Dhruv Nagar who worked with a company in Satpur MIDC area, an official of Gangapur police station said.

Archana Kishore Shinde, a resident of Hanuman Nagar, was returning home from work around 6 pm when she was hit from behind by a speeding car on Bardan Phata-Shivaji Nagar Road, near Gangapur Road, the official said. The woman sustained a severe head injury. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced her dead, he said.

Before the accident, two youths coming from the opposite direction saw the car coming towards the woman and tried to warn the driver. However, the driver did not reduce the speed and the vehicle crashed into Shinde. The driver then fled the scene of the accident, police said.

On Monday, 45-year-old Nidhi Ware was mowed down and killed by a truck on the road between Gangapur Road and College Road in Nashik, reported India today.

A woman was killed in Mumbai’s Worli area on Sunday when a BMW rammed a two-wheeler she was riding and dragged her for 1.5 km, police said. Three people, including Mihir Shah, the son of a Shiv Sena politician, have been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

The victim, Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, was dragged for about 1.5 kilometers by the speeder driven by Shah before he swapped seats with his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, and fled the scene in another vehicle, Mumbai Police said.

Late on Sunday night, a policeman was killed in Pune when a car crashed into the motorcycle of two policemen who were on patrol in Khadki area. A 24-year-old man was arrested in this connection on Monday. In another hit-and-run accident on Sunday night, a 23-year-old man was killed after an unidentified vehicle hit him in Nagpur city.

On February 25, a woman was driving her Mercedes recklessly, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, and collided with two men riding a scooter on the Ram Jhula bridge. Both drivers died in the accident. The woman surrendered to the police on July 1, more than four months after the accident, and was subsequently arrested. On July 2, a court here ordered her release, declaring her arrest in the case illegal.
