SEVERE WX ALERT: MAY 9, 2024

Based on the latest information we received from the National Weather Service this morning, severe weather is expected to arrive in our area this afternoon and continue into the evening hours. Key threats include rain and extreme wind gusts that can reach up to 60 miles per hour during or around normal operating hours, creating serious concerns for school bus traffic on our roads. There is also a possibility of tornadoes developing with this system.

In the interest of the safety of both our students and staff, the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System will operate on an early dismissal day today and students will be dismissed early. All extracurricular activities, including sports, are canceled, March 21stst Century Community Centers and the YMCA After School programs.

Schools will dismiss today on the following schedule to accommodate bus drivers, motorists and students walking. This information can also be found online on the district’s website.

11:30 a.m for all high schools, PLUS Godley K-8/Wings ES/Building Bridges MS and CGCA at Jenkins HS

11:40 a.m for Building Bridges HS and all middle schools (except Mercer)

12:15 p.m Mercer MS, Ellis, Garrison, IOH, Georgetown, Hesse, New Hampstead K-8 and Bloomingdale Elementary.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our families, but the district prioritizes the safety of both students and staff. Families who have additional questions should contact their school. We thank you for your support of Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools.
