Off-duty police officer involved in Elgin shooting; Kane County Major Crimes Task Force investigating – NBC Chicago

An intersection in suburban Elgin was closed Monday night while authorities investigated a shooting involving an off-duty police officer, authorities said.

The shooting was reported around 4:35 p.m. near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and National Street. Details of the incident are still unclear, but the Kane County Prosecutor’s Office said an off-duty officer was involved in the incident and the officer was not a member of the Elgin Police Department.

According to prosecutors, the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force led the investigation into the shooting.

The intersection of Walnut and National was still closed at about 6:45 p.m. and will remain closed during the investigation, authorities said.
