Houston airports expect 1.9 million passengers during July 4 travel period

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Summer vacation is in full swing, and one sign of that is the increasing number of people flying right now.

The Houston Airport System reports that 1.9 million people will travel through Bush Intercontinental and Hobby airports during the Independence Day travel period, which runs from June 27 through Sunday.

Airlines have added 60 additional flights from Houston’s two main airports, Hobby and Bush Intercontinental, for the summer months, boosting traffic.

Another factor to consider when planning your trip to Bush is ongoing construction work.

The HAS maintains its recommendation that travellers making domestic trips should arrive two hours before their flight, and those travelling abroad should arrive three hours earlier.

They direct all travelers to their website which has information on flight status and wait times at security checkpoints.

Travelers can also reserve their parking on this site in advance, guaranteeing them a space upon arrival at the airport.
