Fort Dodge firefighters rescued two people from a Chevrolet Malibu that crashed into a tree in Loomis Park late Tuesday night. One person was killed and another injured in the crash.

One teenager was killed and two others were injured when the car they were in crashed into a tree in Loomis Park late Tuesday evening.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the dead girl as Leah C. Lynch, 16, of Fort Dodge. She was the driver of the car, troopers said.

A passenger in the car, Amyrra M. Lumsden, 16, of Fort Dodge, was seriously injured. She was flown by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, the State Patrol reported.

A second passenger, 16-year-old Jessie B. Leyja of Fort Dodge, was injured but was not taken to a hospital by ambulance, according to the State Patrol.

The accident occurred at 10:59 p.m. near the park entrance on North Seventh Street.

Lynch was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu on Park Road toward North Seventh Street when she lost control of the vehicle, troopers said. The car hit the grass on the side of the road, spun out and slid sideways into a tree. The driver’s side of the car struck the tree trunk.

With the help of several hydraulic rescue tools, the firefighters cut off the roof of the car and opened the passenger doors to free the girls.

Fort Dodge Fire and Police Departments, Webster County Sheriff’s Deputies, Iowa State Patrol and the Webster County Coroner’s Office responded to the accident.
