Rape: Man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping 12-year-old girl | News from Vadodara

Vadodara: A 28-year-old man from Waghodia has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl from his neighbourhood. A special judge (Pocso) convicted Suresh Rathodia under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. The crime took place in November 2011 when the minor’s mother went to work and asked the girl to keep food ready until she returned. When she returned, she found her daughter crying. The girl alleged that she was sexually abused by Rathodia. She was passing by Rathodia’s house when he called her on the pretext of asking her for a mouth freshener. He forcibly took her to his house and raped her. He was arrested after the mother filed a police complaint. During the trial, Rathodia denied raping the girl and claimed that he was being framed in a false case due to a dispute with the girl’s family. However, the court examined all the evidence presented by the prosecution and sentenced Rathodia to life imprisonment. It observed that such rapes made parents feel unsafe and hence did not send their daughters to school, which had a detrimental effect on their education.
