Steve Williams, president of the Football Association of Wales (FAW), has been provisionally suspended following the completion of an independent investigation, the football association has admitted.

Williams confirmed the provisional suspension and stated that he had lodged an appeal.

It is understood that an independent investigation into Williams has been completed, but an independent disciplinary hearing has not yet taken place.

The FAW board, council and staff were informed late last week of the investigation into Williams and his impending provisional suspension.

Because of his seniority, Williams is expected to face an independent panel for a hearing, but a date has not yet been set.

As president, Williams oversees operations at all levels of Welsh football and was involved in the process of sacking Rob Page last month.

Neither FAW nor Williams provided Sky Sports News with information about the type of examination when you are approached.
