Women’s Flag Football League Remains Strong in Week 4 of Competition

PINE ISLAND, Minn. (KTTC) — The Minnesota Girls Flag Football League is stronger than ever in its fourth week of competition. Last week, Houston joined the league’s roster, compiling a 16-player team in 24 hours to play in Sunday’s games.

“From what I heard, the players had a blast and had a lot of fun,” Houston coach Dale Moga said. “Just being able to compete and being able to put together a team in less than about 24 hours shows that the girls in Houston really want to compete and have fun. They try almost every sport possible. »

Houston joined three other teams in the inaugural season: La Crescent-Hokah, Pine Island and Rosemount. With four teams now in the league, each team was able to play two games today.

The games also featured a special guest: former Minnesota Vikings player Dontarrious Thomas was on the sidelines. Thomas resides in Tampa, Florida, but was in town when the Vikings told him about the flag football league.

“I was beyond excited to come here and see what was going on,” Thomas said.

Thomas was impressed with the skills demonstrated and is confident of a bright future for the league.

“I live in Tampa, Florida, and women’s flag football is really starting to take off and be very popular there. So I’ve seen some good talent, and I come here and I see the same thing,” Thomas said. “I think the league is in good hands, it will continue to grow. I see a lot of enthusiasm, excitement from all the teams, and I hope it continues to progress at home.
