Rape: Man gets 20 years in prison for raping a minor | News from Bhubaneswar

Kendrapada: A 29-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by an ad hoc judge of the Kendrapada special court on Saturday for raping an eight-year-old girl four years ago. The court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. His sentence would increase by one year if he fails to pay the fine. The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay a compensation of Rs 500,000 to the girl. The accused was sentenced to jail under Section 376 AB of the IPC and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The victim’s mother filed a complaint at Aul police station on September 15, 2020, alleging that the accused raped the girl after taking her to a remote place when she was fetching water from a tubewell and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
