Man charged with arson in connection with Squealing Pig fire, police say

YES, WELL, SEAN, YOU KNOW, FIRST WE’RE GOING TO STATE THE OBVIOUS. THIS POPULAR PUB IS STILL LOCKED UP. IT’S CLOSED AND CANNOT BE OPENED AT THIS TIME, BUT THE POLICE HAVE NOW ARRESTED AT LEAST ONE EVERETT MAN AND CHARGED HIM WITH ARSON. 23-YEAR-OLD PRISCILLA BARRUEL IS ALSO CHARGED WITH BURGLARY WITH INTENT TO COMMIT A FELON AND MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY. THIS FIRE BROKE OUT ON WEDNESDAY MORNING, EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING, ACTUALLY JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT. AND WITNESSES WHO SHOWED US THE VIDEO SAY THEY SAW ALL THE PUB’S WINDOWS SMASHED BEFORE THE FIRST FLAMES. THE PUB REGULARS WE’VE TALKED TO ARE SHOCKED TO HEAR SOMEONE DID THIS ON PURPOSE. THIS IS VIOLENT. THIS IS IT. AND DRIVING ALL THE WAY IN. IT’S NOT EVEN LIKE THEY WERE LOCALS, LIKE THEY WERE ON A MISSION, AND YES, I SOMEWHAT ASSUMED IT WAS JUST THE WOOD STOVE. THEY, UM, SEEMED SOMETHING HAPPENED, RIGHT? OR ELECTRICAL OR SOMETHING. BUT MAN, YES, THE DAMAGE IS INSANE. THE CARS. YES. The flames were so fierce that they melted parts of nearby cars and a light pole. The Squealing Pig was a neighborhood fixture for 26 years. Its owners vow to rebuild it and create a new hangout, and it’s not clear why this Everett man might have targeted this pub.

A man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire at a Boston pub, police said. Boston firefighters responded to the Squealing Pig early Wednesday morning. Flames quickly spread through the Huntington Avenue pub and a second alarm was raised. Prasiddha Baruwal, 23, of Everett, was arrested and charged with arson of a commercial building, burglary and malicious damage to property. The intensity of the flames melted the top of a light pole across the street and damaged two vehicles. “We believe this was an isolated incident directed at this establishment and not at the general public,” said Fire Commissioner Paul F. Burke. Despite the extensive damage to the pub, the fire was contained to one building. No injuries were reported.
