High school band leader convicted of sexually abusing a student: Pennsylvania Attorney General

Theron Roberts, the 41-year-old former band director at Crestwood High School in Mountain Top, was found guilty of sexual assault in an institutional setting and seduction of a minor, prosecutors said.

According to authorities, Roberts groped a 10th-grader after pulling her into a “secluded alcove” and threatened her not to report the incident.

The attorney general’s office said he met the victim three years earlier when they were in seventh grade.

Before the attack, he touched the victim’s thigh during individual lessons, made comments about his relationship with another student and “touched the victim’s uniform on intimate parts of her body,” according to the public prosecutor’s office.

“This defendant abused his position of power and spent time gaining the student’s trust before attacking her,” said Attorney General Michelle Henry.

“I applaud the jury for their attention to this serious matter and admire the victim’s courage in coming to court and confronting her abuser to ensure that justice is done.”

His sentencing is scheduled for September 27.
