F1 News: McLaren in NEW motorhome after fire incident at Spanish GP

McLaren have confirmed that they will be travelling in a makeshift motorhome following a fire at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend.

The Spanish Grand Prix was a complete success for the Woking-based team: Lando Norris took pole position on Saturday and second place on Sunday.

Before qualifying and the race, however, things took a horrible turn in the paddock when a fire broke out in the hospitality area.

A member of the McLaren team was even taken to hospital, but the team later confirmed that he was later discharged and the all-clear was given.

McLaren unveils makeshift camper van after fire

After its usual base was damaged, McLaren is now using a makeshift camper van and hospitality unit. This weekend’s event in Austria takes place as part of an F1 triple-header, just days after the last race in Spain.

According to F1i.com, the team had been working tirelessly all weekend to clean up and repair the damage caused by the fire. The unit is currently in Germany undergoing a thorough clean.

The above report speculates that McLaren’s main hub could return for the British Grand Prix next weekend, but states that a later return is more likely.

While the above change is undoubtedly an inconvenience, it does not appear to have significantly hampered McLaren’s preparations for the F1 Sprint or Austrian Grand Prix this weekend.

Although the facilities are much more modest in size and design than usual, F1i has stated that there is sufficient space for the team engineers to work and for the mechanics to be fed.

In addition, it was announced that the driving rooms of drivers Norris and Piastri have been moved to the Paddock Performance Center, where they will be joined by their boss Andrea Stella, whose office has also moved.
