One dead after accident on Highway 78

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Charleston County.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a collision that occurred late Wednesday night on Highway 78 at Wisteria Street in Ladson.

According to officials, a driver turned left from Wisteria Street onto Highway 78 and failed to yield the right of way, striking a vehicle on Highway 78. The vehicle turning onto Highway 78 overturned and the struck vehicle was forced off the road into a ditch. The driver of that vehicle was trapped.

The passenger of the vehicle, which turned onto Highway 78, was partially ejected. Officials said the person was taken to Trident Medical Center and pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office’s traffic services unit is investigating the accident, which closed Highway 78 for approximately two hours.
