(KRON) — Yohan Murillo-Medina, a drug trafficker from San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, was sentenced Wednesday to 32 months in prison, U.S. District Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey announced. The 22-year-old San Francisco resident pleaded guilty to the charges against him in February.

On the morning of January 30, Murillo-Medina was walking with a backpack near the corner of Golden Gate Avenue and Hyde Street. When Murillo-Medina noticed police nearby, he began to flee, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said the foot chase lasted “several blocks” until Murillo-Medina stopped and was arrested shortly afterward. Police found his backpack and jacket, which prosecutors said contained:

  • 1,749.9 grams of fentanyl
  • 20.7 grams of “a substance containing methamphetamine”
  • 26.7 grams of Alprazolam (benzodiazepine) tablets
  • 132.1 grams of marijuana

The 22-year-old later admitted to fleeing because “he thought police were going to arrest him for possession and attempted resale of the controlled substances found in his backpack and jacket,” prosecutors said.

On April 11, 2023, a federal grand jury indicted Murillo-Medina, charging him with possession of methamphetamine with intent to resell and possession of fentanyl. The 22-year-old pleaded guilty to both counts.
