Manteca Police Celebrate Certification of New Autism Center

The Manteca Police Department received its autism certification through IBCSS.

TAO WAS NEITHER ARRESTED NOR CHARGED WITH A CRIME. A SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENT THAT ALLOWS THE MANTECA POLICE DEPARTMENT TO BETTER SERVE ITS COMMUNITY. TODAY THE DEPARTMENT RECOGNIZED ITS NEW CERTIFICATION AS AN AUTISM CENTER. THE DEPARTMENT OBTAINED THIS CERTIFICATION THROUGH IBC S, A GROUP THAT PROVIDES TRAINING AND EDUCATION ON COGNITIVE DISORDERS. THE CERTIFICATION HELPS POLICE OFFICERS BETTER SERVE PEOPLE WITH AUTISM AND THEIR FAMILIES. I VERY HOPE THIS IS SOMETHING WE’LL SEE ALL OVER THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, AND, UM, AND SINCE WE’RE THE THIRD, I BELIEVE MERCED IS THE SECOND. AND THEN WE, UM, I THINK IT’S VERY IMPORTANT. IT’S VERY IMPORTANT TRAINING. UM, AND IT’S JUST ANOTHER TOOL IN OUR TOOL BELT TO BE ABLE TO RESPOND APPROPRIATELY TO SITUATIONS WHERE YOU’RE DEALING WITH SOMEONE WITH AUTISM.
