One dead after nighttime shooting in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia (WAVY) – A man is dead after an overnight shooting in Newport News.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, Newport News police responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 700 block of 36th Street.


When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The NNPD has not released any further details. The murder investigation is ongoing.
