A 21-year-old Ventura County man was killed late last week in a two-vehicle collision in which he was thrown from his motorcycle, authorities said Monday.

The June 14 accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. at the intersection of Westlake Boulevard and Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks, according to a news release from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, the motorcyclist, now identified as Jose Luis Diaz Cruz, who lives in Oxnard, collided with a car at the intersection.

Emergency responders attempted to save the patient’s life until paramedics and firefighters arrived and provided him with more comprehensive care, the press release said. The 21-year-old was taken by ambulance to Los Robles Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The other driver was also taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released.

Authorities have not commented on whether they believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has additional information about the incident is asked to contact Ventura County Senior Deputy Marcos Moreno at 805-494-8271 or via email at [email protected].
