Virginia Amber Alert suspect’s car broke down before his arrest

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WAVY) — The suspect in a Virginia Amber Alert on Tuesday was arrested after her car broke down in Kentucky, according to authorities.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Ashley Griffith was on Battlefield Memorial Highway, about an hour south of Lexington, around 5:30 p.m. when a deputy responded to a 911 call from a motorist.


Griffith told the responding deputy that she needed a jump start on her car. However, further investigation revealed that Griffith was wanted in connection with the reported kidnapping of ten-month-old Cedar Samuel Griffith. According to authorities, the toddler was in the vehicle at the time.

Griffith was arrested and charged by the sheriff’s office with resisting arrest and fleeing out of state. She was taken to the Madison County Detention Center.

The child was taken into custody by officers and Virginia State Police canceled their Amber Alert on Wednesday around 7 p.m.

Authorities have not released further details about the motive or other circumstances of the case.
