Firefighters attacked by youths after responding to house fire in Poleglass

Firefighters were attacked at a house fire in west Belfast on Sunday.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were called to a kitchen fire at a house on Bell Steel Road, near the petrol station, at around 6.10pm on Sunday evening.

While in the area, rescue workers were surrounded by a group of young people who threw objects at them. There were no injuries and no damage to the equipment.

A PSNI spokesman said: “We were in the area to assist residents in a serious situation and I would appeal to those involved in this operation to take a moment to consider the community they are affecting through their behaviour.”

“I appeal to parents to know where their children are and to discourage them from antisocial behaviour. And I appeal to young people themselves to think about the possible consequences of their actions.

“We continue to work with partner agencies, local representatives and the community to find collaborative and proactive solutions to address the issue.”
