Gordon Ramsay is ‘lucky’ to be alive after serious bicycle accident

“I can’t tell you how important it is to wear a helmet”

Gordon Ramsay has said he is “lucky to be here” after having a “really bad” cycling accident this week and credits his helmet with saving his life.

In an Instagram video posted on Saturday, Ramsay spoke about the incident, revealing that the accident had “really shaken” him, but he was grateful it wasn’t worse. “Honestly, I’m lucky to be here,” he said. “These incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, nurses and hospital that have taken care of me this week have been incredible. But honestly, you have to wear a helmet. I don’t care how short the journey is… they are crucial.”

At one point, Ramsay lifted his white chef’s jacket to reveal a large, ugly bruise on the left side of his body. In addition to his statement, he also shared “before” and “after” pictures of his helmet from the accident, showing how serious it was.

“Now I’m glad to be standing here – I’m in pain, it’s been a brutal week and I’m getting through it somehow – but I can’t tell you enough how important it is to wear a helmet,” he said. “I’m grateful to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London who took care of me and checked me over, but I’m most grateful for my helmet, which saved my life.”

In the caption, Ramsay addressed his statement to dads in light of Father’s Day, urging “all the dads out there” to “WEAR A HELMET!” He also confirmed that he didn’t break any bones in his accident and is “doing fine” aside from “looking like a purple potato” due to the bruising.
