New police officers join the Michigan State Police Monroe Post

MONROE – Three new patrol officers are joining the Michigan State Police Monroe Post after graduating from the recent patrol officer recruit school this month.

Jason Ludwig of Fowlerville, Lowry Rains of Tecumseh and Cooper Roberts of Howell will join the traffic police at the Monroe Post, which serves Lenawee and Monroe counties. The patrol officers investigate all types of crimes, conduct traffic stops and provide other emergency services.

The 145th Trooper Recruit School began Jan. 21 at the MSP Training Academy in Lansing, a news release said. Recruits received training in patrol techniques, report writing, ethics, cultural diversity and implicit bias, decision making, leadership, first aid, criminal law, crime scene investigation, firearms, water safety, defensive tactics and precision driving.

The graduating class includes 54 new police officers. Among them is Andrew Todd of Monroe, who was assigned to the post in Hart, near Lake Michigan between Muskegon and Ludington.

“It is an honor to welcome and congratulate our newest officers. Earning your badge is the direct result of determination, resilience and hard work,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP, in the release. “This job will not be easy, but it will be rewarding. I am confident that the work of our new officers will help raise the standards of policing.”
