Car fire on Katy Fwy: Serious truck crash on IH-10 eastbound near Washington Avenue and Westcott Street causes traffic congestion

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – The aftermath of a serious truck fire along the Katy Freeway is causing delays for drivers in the Houston area on Thursday afternoon.

According to Houston police, the incident involved a Jeep that caught fire around 12:30 p.m. on IH-10 eastbound near Washington Avenue and Westcott Street.

Houston TranStar reports that three center and two right lanes are closed as crews work to clear debris from the fire. SkyEye flew over the fire scene, where some cars were seen driving by.

Don Armstrong of SkyEye recommends that drivers use the Beltway to US-59 or to Highway 290 as an alternative route.

Police reported no injuries and did not provide a timetable for the duration of the closure.
