Investigators reveal details of Eatonville police officer accused of assaulting woman in front of his son – WFTV

EATONVILLE, Fla. – Jocelyn Pitts claims former Sergeant Roy Smith attacked her in front of her 2-year-old son in August after she rejected his advances.

Channel 9 obtained the internal investigation against Smith.

It explains how Eatonville police investigated the incident, which Smith claimed was a traffic stop.

When other officers arrived to provide backup, they said they did not know what type of stop Smith was allegedly attempting to conduct.

Channel 9 also found that Smith was never interviewed because the department allowed him to retire during the investigation.

“He jumped out of the car and said, ‘Give me your license and registration,'” Pitts said. “I said, ‘That wasn’t a traffic stop, you were trying to flirt and talk to me. I don’t want to talk.'”

“I wanted my driver’s license, but he knocked it out of my hand,” Pitts said. “Then he tried to say I was resisting arrest.”

The documents show that Smith made several comments to Jocelyn Pitts, including telling her to smile.

They also claim Smith failed to properly communicate with Pitts about an alleged traffic stop and threatened her with jail time when she said she wanted to press charges.

“He pushed me into the car, there was no air conditioning and the windows were rolled up,” Pitts said.

The review found that Smith’s actions were inappropriate and aggressive, including when he pulled Pitts’ handcuffs from behind.

Other officers who stepped in as reinforcements were questioned.

One said he noticed that something was wrong with the stop.

“They looked at him and eventually he pushed me to the car and took the handcuffs off me,” Pitts said. “(Then) he said they won’t be able to save me next time.”

The investigation found that Smith exercised poor judgment, abused his power, was negligent and engaged in mischievous behavior.

His punishment should have ranged from a reprimand to dismissal.

“(Smith) takes out his phone, takes a picture of my day and smiles.

Instead, the department let Smith retire while the investigation was ongoing and the case was closed in March.

Another sergeant called to the scene was also responsible for the investigation against Sergeant Smith.
