Man held at knifepoint for raping woman

The All Women Police, Koyambedu, have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly entering the house of a school teacher and raping her at knifepoint in Nerkundram.

The victim is a 31-year-old woman who lives in Nerkundram with her husband, an auto driver, and two daughters. On Monday evening, her husband left the house to go to work in his autorickshaw. The woman had left the front door open at night because it was too hot.

After midnight, an unknown, drunk person entered the house while she and her two daughters were sleeping. When the woman tried to raise the alarm, he pointed a knife at the children and raped them.

She then called for help. When the neighbors heard her screams, they surrounded him and beat him. Police officers who arrived on site took the woman and the injured defendant to the hospital. A medical examination later confirmed the rape.

Acting on a complaint from the woman, police arrested the accused J.Paul Raj (38) of Chinmaya Nagar on charges of rape and criminal intimidation.
