Teens rob woman on SEPTA train in West Philadelphia, police say – NBC10 Philadelphia

A video shows a group of teenagers holding a woman captive on a SEPTA train in West Philadelphia and then stealing her phone, police said.

The incident occurred on May 28, 2024, just before noon on a SEPTA El train. According to police, several teenagers approached a woman and forced her to stay on the train. They then grabbed the woman’s phone and fled at the nearest subway stop, investigators said. Video shows one of the teenagers preventing the woman from leaving the train while the other teenagers run away.

SEPTA recently received the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) highest award for its efforts to improve safety for customers and employees. SEPTA also reported a 45% decrease in serious crimes in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. In response to the news of the award, SEPTA riders who spoke to NBC10 said they do not feel safe and that the transit agency still has work to do.
