HOUSTON– University of Houston women’s basketball head coach Ronald Hughey announced the signing of transfer guard Kateri Poole from LSU on Monday.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Kateri to the Cougar family,” said Hughey. “A national champion at LSU and former five-star recruit, Kateri brings championship experience and a winning pedigree to Houston. Kateri is a tough and exciting player who will help elevate our program. Their ability to score in a variety of ways and create as their “Our teammates will help us take our offense to new levels. Poole, a 5’8″ guard from the Bronx, New York, was a vital member of LSU’s 2023 national championship team, where they played in 35 games and started six games. guard started in the final five games of the NCAA tournament, including scoring six points in the championship game against Iowa.

Prior to LSU, Poole spent two seasons at Ohio State. During the 2021-22 season, Poole played in 25 games and recorded 13 starts, averaging 4.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 16.1 minutes per game. The guard appeared in all three NCAA Tournament games during Ohio State’s Sweet 16 run.


Poole played in all 20 games his freshman season and started the final five. Averaging 6.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists as a freshman, Poole was named to the Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team.

Poole is a former five-star recruit and espnW HoopGurlz’s 24th overall player in the 2020 class. The guard received several honors in high school, including being named Miss New York by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York and was named to the All-State first team in 2020 and the second team in 2019. Poole was the MVP of the Kyrie Invitational. at the Barclays Center in December 2019.


Poole averaged 18 points, six rebounds and five assists as a senior on South Shore. The Bronx, New York, native played at Monsignor Scanlan High School for three seasons before transferring to the South Shore. At Monsignor, Poole led the team to a second-place finish in the state tournament in 2019.
