YouTube star Ben Potter dies at age 40 after ‘unfortunate accident’

Ben Potter, an online content creator known as a comicstorian, has died at the age of 40 following an “unfortunate accident.”

Potter was known to many through his YouTube channel, where he shared opinions, reviews, and in-depth analysis of various comic book and superhero products, including Marvel and DC films. Some of his recent video titles include “Wolverine vs Ghost Rider,” “Suicide Squad Dream Team,” and “Daredevil Destroys The Avengers.”

Potter started his channel in 2014 as an offshoot of his gaming channel and had over 3 million subscribers. He released his last video, “Why DC’s Reboots Beat Marvel,” just one day before his death.

Potter’s wife Nathalie announced his unexpected death on Monday (June 10) with a post on the Comicstorian X Account.

“Two days ago, on June 8th, my husband Ben Potter passed away in an unfortunate accident,” the post begins, before Nathalie points out the many impacts Ben has had on other people’s lives.

“To many of you, he was a comics storyteller who told stories from many different media. To his loved ones, he was one of the best and most helpful people you could wish for.

“As a husband, son, brother, friend, or even just a stranger, Ben was loving and genuine. He was someone who listened and made time for his loved ones. He did his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were OK. He was our rock and reassured his loved ones whenever they needed it.”

Her statement added that while she needed time to grieve with the family, her priority was to “preserve everything he built.”

“His channel was one of his greatest achievements and while we all need time to mourn his loss, I know he wouldn’t have wanted it to end this way,” she continues.

“Ben has spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies. His love of engaging stories and well-written characters is what led him to start on YouTube.

“The team and I want to keep that going. To honor him by continuing to tell great stories about great people and keeping the memory of our own superhero alive.”

Nathalie ends the post by assuring that she will continue to support Ben’s dreams, just as they did for each other when he was alive.

“We supported each other in everything we wanted to do and I have no plans to stop now,” she writes.

No further information has been released regarding Ben Potter’s cause of death.

In response, several fans shared their condolences in Comicstorian videos, with some even going back to his first upload in April 2014 to express their appreciation for his work.

“Rest in peace, Benny. You were a great friend to all of us. I am forever grateful for the impact you had on my life,” reads a recent comment on the YouTuber’s first video.
