Two domestic dogs that attacked a boy in Kolathur die under observation

The two dogs that allegedly attacked a 12-year-old boy in Kolathur died under observation at the Blue Cross animal shelter on June 7, senior officials of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) said.

“The shelter issued daily reports indicating that the dogs were active and fine till Thursday. But the next day, we received a report that they were dead. The carcasses of the dogs were sent to the Madras Veterinary Hospital in Vepery for postmortem. The hospital doctors said they would submit the report to us on June 11,” he said.

The confirmation came after claims on social media that the dogs, owned by John Fredrix of 4th Street, Teacher’s Colony, in Kolathur, had died at the Blue Cross Animal Shelter. The official explained that the animals, which were not registered with the GCC, were brought to the Blue Cross Animal Shelter with the consent of the owners as they cannot be accommodated at the GCC Animal Shelter.

“The Gulf Cooperation Council has asked the Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Committee whether any non-governmental organisations would take care of these dogs. The only possible response was the Blue Cross Animal Shelter,” he added.
