Police shoot suspect in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania (WHTM) – A police officer shot and killed a suspect who opened fire on him early Sunday morning in Harrisburg.

According to Harrisburg city spokesman Matt Maisel, around 1:30 a.m., a Harrisburg police officer and a Capitol police dog were pursuing a suspect with a dog, who then opened fire on them.

Within 200 meters of South Street, officers returned fire and fatally shot the suspect.

No officers were injured and the police dog, which was startled by the shots, was found unharmed after a short disappearance.

The identity of the dead is currently unknown and details of the chase are still being investigated.

Maisel says the Dauphin County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
