New allegations against Spalding prison officer

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — After learning of an alleged sexual assault by a prison guard on an inmate her son was dating, a mother said investigators failed several families by failing to investigate a case from her own family.

Quentin Morgan, 22, a former deputy sheriff at the Spalding County Jail, has been behind bars since his arrest on May 29. An inmate said Morgan came into his cell and sexually assaulted him.

Just weeks earlier, 11Alive learned of another incident involving Morgan with an inmate.

“My son said, ‘Please don’t hit me anymore! Please don’t hit me!’ He was begging him,” Brenda Dieckmann said.

Her 59-year-old son feared for his life when he was allegedly attacked by former Deputy Sheriff Morgan. John Allen Wright had only been in prison for two months when this happened.

“He said this officer came in while he was having breakfast. He was sitting at a table with six other men and suddenly this officer grabbed him from behind and threw him against a cupboard (and hit him on the forehead). Then he grabbed him, dragged him by his feet and carried him to his room and then kicked him three times in the ribs,” Dieckmann said.

Brenda said when she reached out to the police about the incident to investigate, no action was taken. Weeks later, Morgan was released and arrested for sexually assaulting another inmate.

“It really shocked me to think that if they had done something, this would never have happened to this boy,” Dieckmann said.

11Alive spoke to Morgan’s mother immediately after his arrest. She was deeply hurt and disappointed when she heard the news.

“If this is a law enforcement officer, it’s a hundred times worse because this is a police officer you have to trust,” said Judy Freeman.

We have reached out to the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office about the assault allegations. None of the allegations have been denied. In a statement, officials said the investigation is ongoing and they could not provide further details.

“It won’t take a month to get it done. No, it won’t,” Dieckmann said.

As time goes on, Brenda’s frustration grows. She says Morgan is “sick.”

“We don’t know how many more people he did this to. He should never be able to set his feet on the sidewalk here again,” Dieckmann said.
