Boy in Franklin County attacked and stripped by trio, one of them charged

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– A child was airlifted to the hospital after being attacked by three people in Franklin County. Police have since identified one of the three suspects, who is now facing charges.

Kendill Raleigh, 18, of Waynesboro, was charged after he was identified as one of the suspects who attacked the child in May, Waynesboro police said in the indictment.

When police found the boy after 3 p.m., he was lying naked in the middle of the street in the 100 block of East North Street and had injuries to his head, police said. The dispatch center reported several suspects running away from the scene on foot.

Due to the head injuries, the boy was flown to the hospital. Police said his right eye had significant bruising and he was bleeding from his head. The victim’s age was not given, but police said he appeared to be between 12 and 15 years old.

A surveillance video of the attack was made available to the police, the criminal complaint states.

All three suspects hid behind different bushes while the boy was walking on a sidewalk, police said. A video shows Raleigh jumping on the child and throwing him onto the street.

According to the indictment, the boy was repeatedly punched and kicked by the trio, even when he appeared to be unconscious. Police say a video shows Raleigh ripping the boy’s clothes off.

A witness also helped police identify one of the suspects as Raleigh, police said.

According to the indictment, police were able to identify one of the other suspects in the robbery. However, it is unclear whether further charges have been filed in connection with the robbery. Police do not know who the third suspect is.

Raleigh faces charges of robbery and aggravated assault, as well as recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.

Raleigh was arraigned on Friday, May 31, before District Judge Kristin Nicklas and is being held in the Franklin County Jail with bail set at $500,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 11.
