Indy Sports columnist Gregg Doyel suspended for unpleasant interaction with Caitlin Clark

A longtime sports columnist for the Indianapolis StarAccording to a report by sportswriter Bob Kravitz, the website was suspended for two weeks after an embarrassing interaction with Caitlin Clark at her first press conference as an Indiana Fever player last month. Gregg Doyel, who has since apologized for his “clumsy and clumsy” comments to Clark, will also be banned from covering all Indiana Fever games this season. Kravitz, a former Indy Star Author, reported Doyel’s suspension in his Substack newsletter on Tuesday. Doyel, who has not published a column since April 29, is expected to resume work on May 13. He declined to comment to Kravitz on the matter when asked for comment. Doyel found himself on the wrong end of virality after the April 17 conference when he began a question for Clark by making her signature heart-hand gesture. After the former Hawkeyes star responded that she made the gesture “to my family after every game,” Doyel said, “Start doing it to me and we’ll get along fine.” He apologized later that same day itself: tweet that he welcomed Clark to Indiana “in my uniquely goofy way.” He also published a contrite column titled “Caitlin Clark, I’m so sorry. On Wednesday I was part of the problem.”
