Construction worker killed by dump truck in Tippecanoe County

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. – A construction worker was struck and killed by a dump truck in Tippecanoe County on Friday.

According to a news release from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to the area of ​​US 231 South and County Road 800 South shortly after noon on Friday, May 31, for a report of a person struck by a car.

Emergency crews arrived on scene to find a construction worker with life-threatening injuries who had reportedly been struck by a dump truck at a construction site. The worker was transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital, where he later died.

A preliminary investigation into the accident revealed that a Mack dump truck driven by a 39-year-old Monticello man was backing up on the construction site when the truck struck the worker.

The identity of the victim will be released once family is notified. The incident is currently under investigation by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Coroner’s Office and the Indiana State Police.
