Current status of investigation into fatal shooting in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – On April 19, the Clay County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting on Nellie Lane, just outside of Brazil.

When they arrived, they found 29-year-old Andrew T. Bethel of Brazil and pronounced him dead at the scene.

This morning, Clay County Sheriff Brison Swearingen confirmed that the shooting remains under investigation.

Clay County Prosecutor Emily Clarke spoke to WTWO Friday morning and said the case had stalled due to a delay in ISP lab results.

“I’ve had numerous conversations with police. They’re still waiting for the Indiana State Police lab,” Clarke said. “This is still under investigation.”
