Dog killed in suspected leopard attack in Salem village

A dead dog was found in a village near a forest on Friday and villagers suspect that it was killed by a leopard.

Last week, two calves were attacked by wild animals in Danishpet forest area. Though villagers suspected it was a leopard attack, forest officials denied the allegations and started monitoring the villages near the forest using drones. Meanwhile, in the early hours of Friday, a dog was killed by a wild animal in Eliyathur village near Danishpet. After being informed, forest officials rushed to the scene and started investigating.

Following these incidents, District Forest Officer Kashyap Shashank Ravi directed forest officials to increase patrolling in villages near the forest. The forest department also warned people not to leave their homes at night. Forest officials said they had not yet confirmed that the wild animal was a leopard. They suspected that it could be a wild dog. However, as a precautionary measure, a 15-member team has been sent to the villages, the officials added.
