E-rickshaw driver drugs, rapes and robs woman; arrested | Delhi News

“On May 26, Kotwali police station received a PCR call about a robbery. A team of officials was sent to the scene where they found an injured woman bleeding profusely. Her three-year-old son was sitting next to her,” said DCP (North) Manoj Kumar Meena.

The injured woman, a resident of Bihar, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, DCP Meena added.

She was travelling from Bihar to Punjab with her son to meet her husband, police said.

On May 26, she got down from the train at New Delhi railway station and went to Sadar Market. While returning in an e-rickshaw, the driver allegedly offered her something to drink, which she drank and then fell unconscious, the DCP added.

“According to her statement, the e-rickshaw driver allegedly took her to a remote place and raped her. When she tried to raise an alarm, the accused allegedly hit her on the head with a brick,” Meena said, adding that she then fell unconscious.

When the woman regained consciousness, she found that her mobile phone and Rs 3,000 in cash were missing, police said.

According to DCP Meena, an investigation team of officials examined about 150 e-rickshaw owners

and analyzed 500 CCTV footage before tracking down and arresting the accused. Police also recovered the woman’s mobile phone from the possession of the accused – who was previously involved in a robbery – as well as the e-rickshaw used in the crime.

An FIR has been filed against the accused under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 308 (attempt to cause wilful killing), 328 (causing hurt by poison etc. with intent to commit offence) and 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is underway, DCP Meena said.
