Man killed in shootout with officers executing arrest warrant in Salisbury

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) – A man was killed in a shootout with police officers in Salisbury Tuesday afternoon, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The man killed, Kenneth Vickers, was found guilty of six counts of sexual abuse and six counts of indecent assault in Cabarrus District Court on Friday, May 24, 2024.

Authorities said Vickers was free on bail, left the house during a recess and did not return to the courtroom.

The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. at a home on Old Concord Road as officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Vickers.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Vickers in a shed behind the house, who fired at them, prompting them to return fire.

He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in the shooting.
