Newport police arrest 12 people on Memorial Day weekend

The Newport Police Department has provided the following arrest and incident logs from May 24, 2024, 7:00 a.m. to May 28, 2024, 7:00 a.m.

Friday, May 24

At 8:33 a.m., 61-year-old Patrick McGirr of Jamestown, Rhode Island, was arrested by Officer Horwood for second-degree sexual assault.

At 7:06 p.m., 49-year-old Charles Walmsley, whose address was not released, was taken into custody by Officer San Antonio. He was charged with Domestic Violence – Unauthorized Use/Transfer of Telephone, Disturbing the Peace, Domestic Assault – 3rd+ Degree, and Domestic Vandalism/Intentional Damage to Property – 3rd+ Degree.

At 7:12 p.m., 49-year-old Charles Walmsley, whose address was not released, was taken into custody by Officer San Antonio on charges of domestic disturbance and domestic cyberstalking and prohibited cyber harassment – 3rd offense.

At 11:45 p.m., Mackenzie Bowman, 23, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, was cited by Officer Rayner. He was charged with resisting lawful or unlawful arrest, disturbing the peace, obstructing the performance of duty of an officer, and simple assault.

Saturday, May 25

At 1:20 a.m., Marcus Lemme, 22, of Coventry, Rhode Island, was cited by Sergeant Carrig for urinating, coughing, or defecating in public.

At 2:10 a.m., 67-year-old Michael Judge of Newport, Rhode Island, was cited by Officer Cavallaro for urinating, coughing, or defecating in public.

At 8:15 p.m., 26-year-old Moises Cabrera of Pawtucket, Rhode Island was arrested by Officer Lubin on charges of refusing to submit to a chemical test and leaving a collision odor – damage to the vehicle in service.

Sunday, May 26

At 12:15 a.m., 24-year-old Charles Daley, whose address was not released, was arrested by Officer Bishop. He was charged with domestic vandalism/intentional damage to property, disturbing the peace, throwing objects at police/fire department/vehicles, and simple domestic assault.

At 2:15 p.m., 40-year-old Anthony Regina, whose address was not released, was arrested by Officer Sullivan on charges of domestic vandalism/intentional damage to property and domestic disturbance.

At 2:25 p.m., Sergeant Doyle arrested Roy Harrison, 66, of East Providence, Rhode Island, for disorderly conduct.

Monday, May 27

At 12:15 a.m., Steven Palkovic, 27, of Middletown, Rhode Island, was arrested by Officer White for disorderly conduct.

At 12:45 a.m., 23-year-old Benny Miller of Lawrence, New York, was arrested by Officer McCabe for disorderly conduct and obstructing the performance of duty of an officer.

At 1:25 a.m., 21-year-old Benjamin Bates of Greenwich, Connecticut, was arrested by Officer Epstein. He was charged with obstruction of justice, resisting lawful or unlawful arrest, and disorderly conduct.

At 8:45 p.m., 54-year-old Jason Moore, whose address was not released, was arrested by Officer White on charges of domestic violence (simple assault and/or battery) (1st offense), vandalism/intentional damage to property, and disturbing the peace (domestic violence).

At 9:45 p.m., 43-year-old Christina Lyons, whose address was not released, was arrested by Officer Boghigian on a 2nd District Court warrant for domestic disturbance.
