Porsche accident in Pune: Police arrest hospital employee for tampering with blood sample

Pune Police have arrested another person in connection with the luxury car accident that tragically killed two motorcyclists in Pune. The latest arrest is in connection with the alleged tampering with the blood sample of a minor, Pune Police officials confirmed.

The arrested has been identified as Atul Ghatkamble, an employee of Sassoon Hospital. This development comes after Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed earlier today that the doctors at Sasson Hospital had replaced the blood sample of the juvenile accused in the luxury car accident with another sample and threw the genuine sample in the hospital’s dustbin.

In a press conference, Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, “On May 19, at around 11 am, the blood sample collected at Sassoon Hospital was disposed of in a hospital dustbin and another blood sample was collected and sent to the forensic laboratory. CMO Srihari Halnor replaced this blood sample. During investigation, we found that Srihari Halnor replaced it on the instructions of the head of the forensic medicine department of Sassoon, Ajay Tawre.”

The commissioner added that suspicions arose when the first report cleared the teenager of alcohol consumption. A second blood sample was then discreetly taken and sent for DNA testing, which matched the DNA of the teenager’s father.

Furthermore, Commissioner Amitesh Kumar mentioned that the Crime Branch is actively searching for the person responsible for exchanging the youth’s blood sample.

Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department had arrested the minor’s grandfather in connection with the case on May 25. A separate FIR was filed against the grandfather under sections 365 and 368 of the Penal Code.

In the incident, which occurred on the evening of May 19, the minor crashed his Porsche into two IT professionals riding a bicycle, resulting in their instant deaths. The ongoing investigation continues to reveal details surrounding the accident and the subsequent handling of evidence, as authorities seek justice in this tragic case.
