14-year-old girl dead after car accident on Balboa Peninsula

A 14-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach on Saturday.

According to Newport Beach Police Department spokespeople, it happened around 6:45 p.m. near E. Balboa Boulevard and Palm Street.

The circumstances that led to the accident are still unclear. However, police say the girl was a pedestrian. Her identity has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing, but detectives say the driver remained on scene to cooperate and this was not a hit-and-run.

The area was closed to the public for hours.

SkyCal flew over the crime scene, where NBPD investigators had cordoned off a large area. A white pickup truck was stopped in the middle of the intersection, near where officers had barricaded the victim’s body.
