The victim of an alleged May 6 assault involving Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice has asked that no charges be filed against Rice, according to police.

When asked by ESPN about the ongoing investigation, Dallas police provided the following update: “The reporting party has signed an affidavit stating that he does not wish to pursue criminal prosecution. The investigation is ongoing.”

The man was taken to hospital on May 6 following the alleged assault, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, including bruising and swelling to his face. Despite the injuries, the alleged victim chose not to pursue legal action.

According to police, Rice is currently charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision resulting in serious bodily injury and six counts of collision resulting in personal injury. The last two charges relate to a six-car crash that injured seven people on March 30. Rice was traveling at 120 mph before she caused the crash.

Possible suspension of Rice and contingencies for the Chiefs:

According to police, the investigation is still ongoing. Of course, such a legal process can be very lengthy. According to Sporting News, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has stated that the league will wait patiently for a resolution of this case before imposing a penalty. However, there is only a small chance that there will be no resolution before the end of 2024.

Sporting News also points out that the Chiefs were very aggressive in their search for wide receivers this offseason. Vinnie Iyer writes, “The Chiefs selected a wide receiver, Xavier Worthy, in the first round of the draft and also signed Marquise Brown as a free agent. Kansas City had to replace free agents Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Richie James, but given their aggressiveness in trading for Worthy, they have a strong reserve position in case Rice is unavailable early in the season.”
