Essex college and career prep nonprofit under investigation

State and federal authorities are investigating CFES Brilliant Pathways, a northern nonprofit dedicated to college and career preparation. Agents from the Office of the New York State Comptroller and the U.S. Department of Education entered the organization’s offices in the town of Essex on Wednesday, WCAX, the CBS television station in Burlington, Vermont, reported.

The nonprofit works with schools, colleges and businesses to help rural students prepare for higher education or entering the workforce. NCPR reported on their work in 2021.

Both the Department of Education and the Comptroller’s Office declined NCPR’s request for comment.
